The Monte Verità located on the hill of Ascona and overlooking Lake Maggiore, has been a place of care and spiritual research for over two centuries. The ancient Sanatorium, founded by a colony of artists, philosophers, naturists and esotericists during the 1800s, hosted personalities such as Bakunin, Graber, Hesse, Mazzini and many others. It has gradually expanded and evolved to become the current conference and research center managed by the Canton of Ticino in collaboration with the Zurich Polytechnic. Next to recent constructions it is still possible to visit the original building, now a museum. The complex also consists of themed sections, such as the tea house and the meditation center. The adjacent park of Monte Verità is considered one of the most active magnetic centers in Europe
